Hi everyone! I just came to the sad sad realization that I have to stay at school tomorrow for open house and thus won’t be able to pick up our very last farmshare! This is a long shot, but would anyone in the Green St/JP area be willing to pick it up and leave it on their porch for me to grab on Wednesday?

I’ll be away for Rosh Hashanah. Can anyone pick up our Tuesday half
Box and I can come pick it up in the evening? I could pay on Zuchinni bread or some other baked good.

Would anyone be able to trade share pick-up with us? We are unable to pick up this Saturday, Aug 1 in JP due to a wedding, and we’re interested in a trade for pick-up in JP on Tuesday.

Let me know! Thanks, Lindsay in JP

Hello! We are going to be out of town tomorrow during the day tomorrow (Wednesday 7/9) and unable to pick up our box from Boston Public Market. Is there anyone in the North End area who will be picking up a box tomorrow and wouldn’t mind picking up one additional box? I’ll be back by 8:30pm and could swing by your apartment tomorrow night to get it. I’d greatly appreciate it!

    Thanks, Katie and Sam

Hi! I am wondering if anyone would be willing to pick up my small share for me Wednesday July 3rd in Somerville. I could pick it up the afternoon or evening of July 4th or even on the 5th (if you are busy on the holiday). I realize it’s probably an inconvient week but I am going away to the White Mountains for the week and there really isn’t any other day for me to switch to for pick up. Email me if you think you could help me out!

    • Monique, you are more than welcome to pick up at ANY location that week, we are more than happy to accommodate you if you don’t find someone else to grab your box :)

      • Monique says:

That’s great! I appreciate the help. However, I will be gone to New Hampshire from Friday the 28th until Thursday July 4th. That pretty much makes pick up that week impossible (since Saturday starts a new week).

  13. Anne Short says:

Hello, I’m wondering if anyone would be able to pick up my box tomorrow (6/25) from the JP (BoA) pick-up. I’ll be able to get the box later that evening or the next morning.

Hello fellow CSA-ers! I need a bit of help.

I’ve been excited to pick up my first box (on June 15th) since I signed up in March, but just realized that I will be home (in Buffalo) that weekend celebrating my Dad, and my boyfriend will be at work until later in the day. Since Buffalo is a bit of a walk from JP, I wonder if there is anyone who can be a DEAR and pick up our box on June 15th from the Jamaica Plain/ BoA pick-up location? I would make arrangements to have my boyfriend pick-up from you later that day/ early the next morning.

    Thank you in advance!

I’m a first time CSA member and loving it! At the same time I’m overwhelmed with all of the greens. My 9 year old daughter has been begging for a green smoothie (like her “super cool” dance teacher drinks) …so I jumped on this request and did a quick Internet search for a recipe. I used Swiss chard, blueberries, plain yogurt, a banana, a few ice cubes and some organic apple juice. I didn’t measure and just blended it all together with delicious results!! I’m thrilled that my daughter drank the whole cup of this nutritious conconction! I look forward to experimenting some more with green smoothies…thinking

    • Marla says:

Oops…posted before I finished. …thinking of adding pineapple next time. If anyone has a favorite green smoothie recipe please post. Best, Marla

Is there anyone picking up on Saturdays in JP who would like to share pick-up dates or help each other out? We live in Cambridge, so we would be happy to work with anyone in Boston, Newton, Brookline, Cambridge, JP etc. My email is agrassian(at)

  27. ericabot says:

    Hello everyone!
Just picked up our share today and were trying to figure out how to use all these greens. Neither of us are big salad eaters but fresh rolls are a great way to use lettuce outside of a salad! Here’s what we made for dinner!

Fresh Summer Rolls made from lettuce, arugula, rice vermicelli and sliced, sauteed veggie burgers wrapped in rice paper
Sauteed yellow squash with soy sauce and lots of garlic over the leftover vermicelli (like rice)

It was super tasty and if you have vegan burgers, it’s vegan too!
Also, fresh rolls make great leftovers for lunch at work.

    Loving our CSA!

    • Annette says:

      Sounds deleeecious.

    • Rhonda Ross says:

We chop up kale, chard, and /or beet greens and throw them into our homemade tomato sauce to be used over spaghetti, in chili, pizza, etc. The same vegetables also get chopped up, steamed until partially tender, and then baked in macaroni and cheese. The cheese makes kale very mild.

  28. Mark Zanger says:

I am a Tuesday Jamaica Plain half-box, but a bachelor for the rest of June and in July and working, so I am not sure if I can always get my box. Any JP tuesday person who can handle the overage and pick up my box for me (if a few choice items are missing, that would be a reasonable tax for trouble). Mark Zanger, Mzanger-at-comcast-dot-net

    • Johanna says:

Where do you live Mark? We live in Brookline and walk over to pick up our box on Tues also. If you are over this way we can pick it up for you and you can pick it up from our front porch whenever.

Hi! I’m going to be out in Central Mass this Sunday and would love to visit the farm! Am I right that the New Braintree farm is “open” from 12-5?

    • Hi Susy,
Well, yes…but I’ll be at the Hardwick Farmer’s Market :) As a member, the farm is “open” to you most of the time for walking, picking, enjoying…
If you can, please send a reminder email Saturday night and I will leave a farm map for you, then you can wander where you like.

  30. Melany says:

Is there anyone around the Marlborough area who’d be willing to pick up our small box in Framingham on June 25th? My husband would be able to pick it up later that evening. Thanks!

  31. Melany says:

Just wondered if there was anyone at the Framingham pick-up for 2012 that wanted to trade contact info in case one of us needs help with a pick-up at some point during the season. We live in Marlborough. My email is corinth1114(at)

  32. Here is a message I received from the member who organized the after hours ‘sweep’:
    — I have folks lined up to check for left-over boxes now through the end of August, and should be able to keep going the rest of the season — we won’t “glean” until 8 p.m. or later, though! Anything we find will go to the Framingham Hope Food Pantry on Concord St. or possibly Pathways Family Shelter on Edgell Road (working out details on that). If anyone else wants to volunteer for gleaning I might need some back-up folks later, they can email me ( . Or if anyone knows other good places to donate, happy to hear about it. FYI — the Hope Food Pantry is open Wednesday’s and Saturday’s 9-12, and they will also take donations from your gardens if you have extra produce (if you bring when they are open and have time to distribute to clients.) And of course they are always looking for donations of non-perishable items as well. I know all the pantries in Framingham are feeling a very high need now — summer is a tough time for pantries long after the holiday and school can drives run out!

I was gone over the weekend and therefore had a profound quantity of kale in the fridge when the Tuesday pick-up was all said and done. So I made Kale Pesto! Try it out and share.

    Kale Pesto
    • 1/2 – 3/4 cup nuts (I used pistachio and it worked great)
    • 2 cups firmly-packed fresh kale
    • 3 cloves garlic
    • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
    • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
    • Approx 1/3 cup olive oil
De-stem and chop the kale (stemming is not strictly necessary but it makes chewing it much easier). Blanch the kale in boiling water for 2 minutes (previous parenthetical statement applies here, too). Drain and rinse in cool water. Squeeze the excess water out. Place in food processor and pulse until the kale is well pulverized. Add the remaining ingredients. Pulse until all is mixed delightfully together. Enjoy on crackers or on a spoon.

  34. Also, this is somewhat off-topic, but if Stillman’s ever wanted a forum area for members to communicate (or any webwork), I’m a web develop at Just a side perk :)

  35. Nancy Zimbalist says:

Farmingo? I know that we can now do something with this, but I have to sign in and don’t have an account and can’t figure out where to get one. Anyone try this?

    • dude, follow the link in the last email you received…the one reminding you to pick up. use your email and request a new password if you don’t rememerb the one you created at signup.

      • Nancy Zimbalist says:

You should know, I didn’t do the sign up, The Dude did. Therefore, I have no password and the link wouldn’t let me create a new one. The Dude has no recollection of creating a password, therefore, once again, leaving it in the hands of the Dudette. Any suggestions?

  36. Caroline says:

I’m a member of both the vegetable and meat CSA – love it! Here is a recipe with both the kale and farm fresh chorizo! Some smoky, spicy soup perfect for this “warm” weather we have been experiencing!!

  37. Kristin says:

Thank you! I posed on FB because I couldn’t find my comment after I left it. I thought I would share a recipe I just found that includes beets and swiss chard, and beet greens.

  38. Kristin says:

Hello, I received my first small box this Sunday. I know that I was told what I was picking up while I was there. If I can’t remember what type of produce we received in our box, how can I identify it?

    • What is in your bag/box from week to week should get cleared up by the letters – it is hard to get all the info into the first letter, as there is a lot of ground to cover. Another thing that happens is when I write the letter, ther may be one thing available, but by the end of the week, that item may be gone and another option is available. This week I though there would be loads of spinach, but it tuns out by the end of the week folks got Swiss chard instead, and that was not noted in the little side-bar of the letter ;)
So, if you are confused this week, there are different types of beets and different types of Swiss chard – hope that helps. There’s some pictures on this blog too…just search for beets or swiss chard.

    • I had a similar issue. I couldn’t tell the difference between swiss chard and kale! Do a Google Image search. We found out that our kale was the plant that looks wet and floppy and had small veins. :)
